A Day to Commemorate, be Proud and give Respect

July 4, 1946, our beloved Philippines has gained the independence we wished for so long. We fought many battles alongside with our allies who supported us up until this day. To declare Independence from the colonizers who have fought with us or made us on our knees because of the ruthless schemes they have poured unto us. Our Filipino compatriots made so many sacrifices, and must have been proud to see the Philippine flag being raised during the proclamation and inauguration of the Independence of our country. The road to the independence of our country is lengthy and treacherous. As a Filipino, we remain steadfast for the events that shocked our devotion for our country. June 12, we try to remember all the events that shattered the Filipino morale that led to the proclamation of our independence.

1565, we have been colonized by the Spaniards up until 1898 wherein the Philippine revolution were it is made as a rebellion to end the brutal Spanish rule running in our country. With the help of American fleets, we achieved the victory, during the Spanish-American war it is concluded with the treaty of Paris wherein it is stated that the Philippines would be given up to the Americans. Since then the war for independence continued within the Americans. The Philippine-American War was in 1899 up to 1902, when the Americans captured President Aguinaldo, it signaled the end of the war. Many laws were made to make the Philippines independent, like the Jones law that grants the Philippines independency once the Filipinos can govern themselves. The Tydings-McDuffie law was made wherein the Philippines would undergo a transition, which would be known as the Philippine commonwealth, wherein after 10 years the Philippines would now be independent.

Halfway to the transition process, the World War II broke out, which led to many invasions in Europe as well as countries in the Southeast Asian and East Asian countries. One of those are our country, Japanese invasion led to the fall of our country into the hands of Imperial Japan. Japan soldiers were very brutal to our citizens, revolutions, battles. It left a devastating print in the hearts and minds of our Filipino people. The American forces as well as the Philippine forces were not able to regain with the sudden invasion of Japan. For 3 years (1942-1945) Philippines was under a brutal government. With an almost hopeless case in the hands of the Japanese people, the devotion for the Philippine commonwealth rises in the hearts and minds of almost all Filipino. As Gen. MacArthur made his promise in coming back, landed in Leyte commencing the rebuttal of Filipino and American forces to make Japan withdraw from the war, and give back the Philippines.

As the allies won the World War II, Philippines also regained its independence on July 4th 1946; it was an amazing day for the morale of the Filipino people as for almost 400 years of battles and revolutions to feed off colonizers. In the Republic Act No. 4166, it is an act of changing the date of Philippine Independence to June 12 and declaring July 4 as Philippine Republic Day.

As June 12 comes in, we want to celebrate and give respect for all of the Filipino people who have fought day and night to achieve our Independence. May this day brings us joy and let us be proud to the achievements and wins of our country especially in the days that our Filipino people wanted independence. We have fought long and well to lift up our Filipino morale up until this day, and let this be a reminder to all of us that our freedom was not given by free but our Filipino countrymen worked hard for it. Mabuhay ang Pilipinas! Mabuhay ang mga Pilipino!
