Tiempo de fiesta, Vigan

Vigan City is a city full of wonders, and fiesta. Vigan City is home to Longganisa Festival, Tres de Mayo festival, Binatbatan and Raniag or Twilight Festival. The main festival here in Vigan is the Longganisa Festival; it is celebrated during January 25. It is also the day where the feast of the Conversion of St. Paul is celebrated, Vigan City’s patron Saint. During this day classes in all schools around Vigan City is suspended, streets are bustling with people, parades and street dancing’s can be seen in the main road of Vigan City, festival banners, carnivals, can also be seen thru out the City. Vigan locals also held “punsyunan” were visitors come eat many fiesta foods, and enjoy the day.

Due to the pandemic, festivals are prohibited since occasions like this can spread the virus very fast. The usual cheering and loud streets around Vigan City cannot be seen during this type of crisis. Bigueños really adore having fiestas, we socializing with our neighbors, hanging fiesta banners, and the parade of saints to what we call “pursisyon” every end of the 5:30 pm mass and many more. All of this have been prohibited since they are considered populated events. So what does bigueños do during the pandemic and there is a festival? Since the pandemic started, we are locked in our houses and saying “Fiesta Vigan atta” Our government held some games but we should follow the given protocols. Some houses also held punsyunans also following the protocols, and many bigueños went to churches to pray, and continues their lives like a normal day. It is quite sad when the pandemic started, but we should follow all the protocols for us to finally end it and go back to normal.

Our health must come first when it comes to occasions like this. Festivals maybe fun but it is more fun without the protocols that we should follow. As of now, we must focus in defeating this virus and finally end this deadly virus. We might now know but next year we can now finally go back to normal and celebrate the fiestas we normally celebrate.

  1. I absolutely agree with you! We must follow the health protocols in order to help in the prevention of the virus's spread. We can celebrate fiestas even without parades and other activities. For now, our health is what we must focus on. Keep up the good work!

  2. Sadly, street dancing, carnivals and other activities during the fiesta, but I'm glad that they still think of ways to celebrate the City's fiesta through small activities. I completely agree that we should prioritize our safety and health and work together to defeat the virus. It's better to celebrate fiestas if we know that we are safe out in public! :)

  3. It is really sad knowing that we are no longer able to socialize freely with other people and be in crowds. But considering the pandemic, we should really follow the implemented protocols for us to win and end this battle soon.
