Kagitingan ng ating mga kababayan; Day of Valor

Araw ng Kagitingan, Day of Valor an act of bravery in our country. We celebrate it during April 9. Many Filipinos still does not have the courage to speak up and defend our beloved country. Our country is one of the affected countries by the Second World War lasting for six years. Many Filipinos fought for their lives, and for the betterment of our country. One act of bravery is during the Fall of Bataan and the battle in Corregidor. As April 9 approaches, we commemorate eighty years of bravery the Filipino and American soldiers that defended Bataan until its fall to the Japanese.

During this historical event, that shattered our country during the Second World War. On April 9 1942, It was officially stated that Filipino and American forces have finally surrendered to the Japanese troops through the Voice of Freedom radio broadcast, third Lieutenant Normando Ildefonso Reyes reading a message prepared by Captain Salvador P. Lopez informing the Philippines and the whole world that We didn’t won the defense. With the iconic words “Bataan has fallen”. With the battle of Bataan lasting for 39 days, with lots of bombings, killings, and wreckage of defenses, and troops. After the official surrender of Bataan to the Japanese Forces, approximately 76,000 Filipino and American soldiers were forced to march from Mariveles, Bataan to Capas, Tarlac. Killing an approximately 10,000 soldiers during the march. With many soldiers escaped the Corregidor Island. Thousands still died due to starvation, disease, and mistreatment of the Japanese troops who have surrendered. It is truly scares, and terrify me reading what really happened during the battle. It is truly heartbreaking to see what terror and fear that our allied troops have to face against the Japanese men.

In this day, we are not celebrating the fall of Bataan but we are celebrating the bravery of our Filipino men who have fought to save our country from the hands of an evil government. It is truly devastating to hear all of what happened to our allied troops during this event. Nevertheless, without the bravery of our Countrymen we would not have this spirit of inspiration to shield our country. Recognizing their sacrifices shows our love to our country. No matter what happen, Araw ng Kagitingan is one way to celebrate our bravery as a Filipino, and to remember the brave souls who have fought until the end of this immoral government.

  2. I agree! The brave who have fought before us really do deserve the recognition and appreciation. It is sad that a lot of our citizens undermine the commemoration, but it is nice to see young people such as yourself be aware of this situation. Nice blog!
