A Festival Worth Experiencing
Here in the Philippines, we celebrate different festivals. Provinces, cities, municipalities have different types of festival. Vigan City holds many festivals, in particular Vigan City holds the Binatbatan Festival. According to the web page of Vigan City, Binatbatan Festival is connected to Vigan’s Abel Iloco craft. The festival has a weeklong full of fun festivities, which includes both religious and secular festivities. Binatbatan festival also includes street dancing, and it is usually held during the first week of May. Its purpose is to promote awareness about the value of the historic town, and to maintain the tourism of the city.
During this festival, a lot of
activities are in store for the visitors and to the locals of the city. Some of
the activities that are being done during this festival are, carabao painting,
abel fashion show, calesa parades, Ramada games, santacruzan, and many more.
During this week, we also celebrate a mass at the simbaan a bassit, in honor to
the Feast of Apo. Sto. Milagroso, who have been protecting the city for many
years. One of the notable activities during the festival is the street dancing
which is connected to Vigan’s abel Iloco craft. The dance depicts the cotton
pods are beaten with a bamboo sticks to rlease the cotton fluff called “batbat”
from its seed. This festival also commemorates Vigan City’s agricultural
industry and their contribution and it has its aims to give importance to the
people behind it. Moreover, this
festival is jammed packed with social activities that we can enjoy.
Binatbatan Festival signifies our
religion and for our tourism activities. Festivals like this are important for
it is our history. Enjoying the activities allotted for a week means a lot as a
local and a visitor. We can now enjoy the festival as long as we comply with
the health protocols given by our government. With that said, Binatbatan
Festival is full of wonders and be admired. Viva Vigan! Viva Vigan Festival of
Arts!
